SAIL invites you to step into the future with our bespoke Carbon Literacy Training designed for the creative and cultural sector.
What is Carbon Literacy?
At its core, Carbon Literacy is about gaining the knowledge and skills necessary to make everyday choices that positively impact the climate. It's an understanding of how carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases influence climate change, and more importantly, what we can do about it.
Key Learning Outcomes:
The Science Behind Climate Change:
Grasp the fundamental concepts of climate science.
Understand how human activities influence climate change
Carbon Footprint Comprehension
Learn what a Carbon Footprint is, and the difference between Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions
Identify the most significant contributors to greenhouse gas emissions in the cultural and creative sectors
Strategies for Carbon Reduction:
Discover ways to reduce carbon emissions in your daily life and within your organisation or creative practice
Explore sustainable practices tailored for the creative and cultural industries.
Action Planning and Implementation:
Develop practical and achievable plans to implement carbon-reducing actions.

Our Tailored Training Approach
Designed specifically for the creative and cultural sector, our three-part Carbon Literacy Training empowers you with the understanding to integrate eco-friendly practices into your artistic and organisational activities.
Training Breakdown:
Pre-Learning Online: This section of the training provides you with the background knowledge of the science of climate change. It is self-directed and completed online in your own time ahead of part 2. We expect this takes no longer than 2-3 hours.
Interactive Peer Learning Session: Dive deep with our trainers into practical, impactful strategies with our in-person, 3.5 hour long session (including a 30 minute break)
Pledge Formation: Commit to personal and collective actions and gain official recognition as Carbon Literate.
We are offering two in-person training sessions adapted to different contexts so please sign up for the one that suits your needs:
19th October – For Venue-Based Organisations
This training session will include information specific for organisations that own or control buildings or venues, including energy monitoring, data capture, energy efficiency measures and renewables.
20th October – For Non-Venue Based Organisations
This training session is adapted for organisations or individuals that don’t operate out of buildings, for instance home-working, touring or outdoor events, and will include strategies such as sustainable mobile power solutions, slow touring models, audience travel, waste and supply chain.
