A free community update on Warrington's lost castle, the responsible route towards archaeology in 2027, and how local people can help build
Full event description
Join us at the historic Bull's Head for a free community update on the search for Warrington's lost castle and the next phase of the project.
Earlier this year, 69 supporters pledged £5,269 to our Kickstarter. Although it did not reach its target, the campaign demonstrated strong public interest and helped build new archaeological, community and academic relationships.
Keith Myers and members of the developing team will explain what has happened since the campaign, the questions still to be answered, and the ambition for a professionally led archaeological evaluation in 2027. We will also set out the people, skills and partnerships needed to create a sustainable local archaeology group.
What you will hear
· What the project has achieved, learned and still needs to establish.
· The current historical and archaeological questions, including what remains uncertain.
· The responsible route towards a professionally led investigation in 2027.
· How a proposed Warrington Archaeology Group could support future work and the roles now needed.
Who should attend
Local residents, existing supporters, history and archaeology enthusiasts, teachers, youth organisations, and people with skills in finance, administration, fundraising, communications, digital media, events or site logistics.
Programme
6:30pm arrivals | 6:45pm community update | 7:00pm questions | 7:15pm informal networking and sign-up
