Walk/Talk/Look/Record

We're Going on a Bug Hunt!

Walk/Talk/Look/Record will be the motto for this brand new series of Hazlehurst Snap & Social Photowalks, as part of Halton Nature Watch.

Bring your phone or camera for a gentle nature walkaround Runcorn Hill Park.

Meeting time: 11am

Duration: 1 hour approx

Meeting place: Esposito's Cafe

Accessibility: Fully accessible.

Suitable for all ages, children must be accompanied by an adult.

We'll be using the great website iNaturalist to record all of our findings, in particular the bugs, slugs and arachnids we find while out and about, with the help of Siobhan, an ecologist from Halton Borough Council's Environment Services.

With iNaturalist, you can:

Identify plants, animals, fungi, & more

Track species you've seen worldwide

Discover nature nearby

Contribute to real science

Learn from a global community of naturalists

The mobile app is also available on Apple and Android for use on the go.

You can either upload images as you go along, or save them until later and upload them- the clever software can track when and where you spotted your subject and records it automatically in the entry.

If you are anything like we are, you'll soon find this becoming quite an addictive activity, as the software will identify your specimen for you and then experts and other users can fine tune the identification. We've already learnt so much about the nature around us while using it, in preparation for the project.

While we encourage the use of the app to record, it's not mandatory, so don't let it put you off attending.
