Join professional photographer Sam Batley for a photo walk and talk around Leigh.
Date: Thursday 12 November
Time: 2 to 4pm
Location Open Eye Hub, Leigh Town Hall, Market Street, Leigh
A fun and friendly chance to learn more about photography, make new connections and get creative.
The walk will be a gentle route around the town centre (less than 2 miles) and activities will be suitable for all levels of photography experience so if you’ve never picked up a camera before or already have a passion for photography, you’ll definitely get something out of it.
Seeing Eye to Eye is a new creative and community project by artist Sam Batley and Open Eye Hub Wigan & Leigh. It is all about identity and place; what does masculinity mean and what does it mean to be a man in our Borough here and now?
The project will be created with people from across the Borough, bringing a range of ideas, voices and perspectives – the result will be a new photography and media exhibition to be shown next year and this photo walk and talk is one of the ways you can be part of it.
What will happen/ how will it run?
there’ll be lots of hands-on guidance and support throughout to make sure you can fully get involved and make the most of the walk…
We’ll meet at Open Eye Hub and Sam will talk through what will happen – with some prompts, questions, ideas and things you might want to look out for to take photos of
There’s no right or wrong in this; you’ll take pictures of whatever catches your eye or inspires you
We’ll be outside for about an hour – but we won’t be walking for the full hour, there’ll be plenty of stops for ideas, instructions and creating images together
We’ll come back together in the Hub to look at what everyone has captured and chat about everyone’s ideas, thoughts and feelings from the walk - with time to get to keep getting to know each other over a warm cuppa of course
What should I bring with me?
You don’t need to bring anything with you, all cameras and photography equipment will be provided. However, if you have your own camera you are very welcome to bring this with you and use it.
The walk will go ahead whatever the weather – so please check the forecast before you come and dress appropriately.
Do I need photography experience?
No, there’s no experience necessary – so whatever you’re interest or knowledge around photography we’d love you to join us.
What will I get from it?
We hope that by taking part in this walk and talk you’ll…
Feel like you’ve had fun and done something creative
Feel inspired to look at everyday environments a bit differently
Have learned a bit more about photography and camera techniques and want to keep taking pictures
