Where do stories come from, and how do we get them started?

There are plenty of ways into the creative process, and in this exploratory and relaxed workshop, Niamh Fennessy will offer participants some different approaches to finding inspiration for new pieces of writing. Using the songs that you love, discover how music can be used as part of the visualisation process and explore how to distil these feelings down into a short scene. Through guided experimentation and prompts, participants will be given space to think, dream and get those ideas onto paper. You can’t redraft what hasn’t been written, so this workshop is all about taking those first creative steps.

No previous writing experience is required, just curiosity and a willingness to try it out.

Strictly for young people aged 14-19.

About Niamh Fennessy

Niamh is a theatremaker and perfomer based in Waterford. In 2023, she obtained BA in Theatre and Drama studies from the MTU Cork School of Music and has been working in various capacities both on and off stage since graduating.

As a playwright and performer, Niamh’s one woman play Glue debuted at the Cork Arts Theatre in September 2023 and enjoyed a two night run at the Theatre Royal in Waterford in August 2025, where it won Best New Play at the Greenroom Awards. Glue was also nominated for Best Female Performance and Best Drama.

In 2024, Niamh was resident in A Little Room Theatre Development Centre, and showcased a work in progress of her play, GUTS, which she wrote and directed. GUTS has since been workshopped by Rough Magic theatre company as part of their Page to Stage Development week, and her most recent work, Genesis, received a rehearsed reading in the Theatre Royal in September.
