Are you working in health care, education, or social care and want to make a real difference in people’s lives? Our two-day Smokefree Advisor training course will empower you to help others break free from tobacco by building your confidence, skills, and knowledge to support lasting change.

Smoking remains one of the biggest causes of preventable illness and premature death. The good news? 70% of smokers want to stop, and with your support, they can. The course provides you with the tools, techniques, and confidence to guide people through their smokefree journey.

Course Overview

Our 2-day interactive training is packed with:

Real-world demonstrations and case studies

Group discussions and peer learning

Practical exercises that build your confidence

Action-focused sessions to help you put theory into practice

What you’ll learn

Nicotine addiction: why people smoke and how to help them stop

Smoking and health: the real impact and the difference you can make

Cessation treatments: what works and how to offer it

Behavioural support: guiding and motivating individuals effectively

Practical procedures: paperwork, referrals, and next steps

Hands-on learning and ongoing support

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

Deliver effective one-to-one support

Offer and explain smoking cessation medications

Encourage and empower others to make positive lifestyle changes

Help reducing health inequalities in your community

Course details

You are eligible for the course if you work in an education, health or social care setting supporting people who live or work in North Somerset or are partners in BNSSG

Attendance on both 15 & 22 October is mandatory for accreditation

Please bring your lunch - tea and coffee will be provided

After completing the course, you’ll receive an accredited certification, and a follow-up visit in your workplace to support you to feel confident delivering your service

Before signing up to our training course

Ensure you have line manager approval to deliver the service in your work setting and permission to attend training updates once per year

Before attending Day 1, you’ll need to complete the 30-minute online module on Very Brief Advice on Smoking (https://elearning.ncsct.co.uk/vba-stage_1). This engaging module includes short films, real-life examples, and key facts to get you ready for our 2-day Smokefree Advisor course

Please be aware there is no parking at this venue but there are various local carparks and on road parking are available nearby. Train and bus routes are located nearby.
