Jo Walton explores some of the ways in which art has portrayed gardens through history
Jo Walton explores some of the ways in which art has portrayed gardens through history, from ancient frescoes to modern installation art, and from precise images of seventeenth-century parterres to rich sweeps of colour, conjuring delicious herbaceous borders. With paintings, sculptures, textiles and more, this will be a rich, mixed bouquet of garden images.
Jo will feature the work of William Nicholson, Ivan Hitchens, Barbara Hepworth, Paul Sandby, Isaac Oliver, Humphrey Repton, Derek Jarman, Cornelia Parker and a host of other glorious garden images.
Those who attended Jo’s talk last year about Victorian moral painting will remember an illuminating and entertaining presentation. This talk will appeal to those interested in art history and to garden enthusiasts.
