The Falls Prevention Workshop is set for 19 October 2026 at Oak Farm Library in Uxbridge. Participants will learn how to reduce their risk of falls through a self-assessment tool and strength and balance exercises.
Join us to learn how to reduce your risk of having a fall, with our self-assessment tool, & strength & balance exercises.
Falls Prevention Workshop
Our risk of falling often increases as we get older and most falls occur during everyday activities, such as getting in and out of the bath or changing a light bulb. Alternatively taking some or multiple medications can increase risk of falling as a side effect. So we have designed this workshop to help you reduce your fall risk.
The sessions are free and aim to:
help reduce the risk of falling by identifying the risks that could affect you.
share actions that you can take to reduce these risks.
useful tips for around your home
strength and balance exercises to help you feel steadier
Self Assessment Toolkit
We have introduced a new assessment tool to help residents better understand their risk of falling and take action to help prevent falls.
Use our Falls prevention self-risk assessment (PDF) [913KB] (https://www.hillingdon.gov.uk/media/10855/Falls-prevention-self-risk-assessment/pdf/gmFalls_prevention_self_risk_assessment_A4_WEB_1.pdf?m=1672993923680) to:
identify the risks that could affect you (Section 1: What is my risk?) and
find ways to reduce your risk of falling by making small practical changes (Section 2: My action plan).
At each session, self-risk a falls prevention toolkit will be handed out.
Important:
If you have had a fall in the past 12 months, please contact your GP to discuss this. You can also speak to Age UK's Falls Prevention Service (http://www.ageuk.org.uk/hillingdonharrowandbrent/our-services/services-in-hillingdon/safe-and-well/falls-prevention-service/), which assists people over 65 years old who are at risk of falling in their home.
