Who is this for?

This workshop is for intermediate sitar learners who already have a foundation in playing and are looking to deepen their technique, musical understanding and expressive approach.

It will be particularly valuable for students interested in Hindustani instrumental music, raga repertoire, sitar technique and musical expression, and who would like to develop their playing through direct guidance.

About Ustad Irshad Khan

Ustad Irshad Khan is the son and disciple of the legendary maestro Ustad Imrat Khan, and one of the leading torch-bearers of the Imdad Khani Gharana. A child prodigy, he gave his first stage performance at the age of eight and has since developed a distinctive approach to both sitar and surbahar.

Over the course of his career, he has introduced several innovations to sitar technique, including developments in left-hand meend and right-hand tantra techniques. His playing brings together the expressive gayaki ang with the instrumental tantra ang baaj, reflecting a deep mastery of Hindustani classical music.

Having performed at major venues and festivals around the world, he is recognised as an accomplished sitar and surbahar player and a dedicated teacher. He is also the founding president of the Universal Academy for Musicians, with branches in Toronto, Rochester, New York and Kolkata.
