Oculoplastics and inflammatory eye disease in community optometry: manage, refer or worry?

Community optometrists increasingly manage patients presenting with red eye and lid abnormalities through routine practice and urgent eye care services (such as CUES). Distinguishing benign conditions from those requiring specialist intervention can be challenging, which can lead to unnecessary referrals or delayed identification of serious pathology.

This specialist-led workshop by Dr Mohammad Tallouzi will provide practical, case-based education on assessing and managing common eyelid, lacrimal and inflammatory eye conditions, supporting more confident referral decisions and better patient outcomes.

Dr Tallouzi is a Nurse Consultant working in the oculoplastic clinics at Birmingham & Midland Eye Centre (BMEC) and a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Clinical Sciences, University of Birmingham. He has specialist expertise in ocular surface disease, inflammatory eye disease and oculoplastic conditions, including eyelid disorders and surgery.
