Join author Jason Ellis for an illustrated talk exploring the Richardson family, Wordsley Flint Glassworks and the makers behind Stourbridge

We are pleased to announce that, 24 years after the publication of Glassmakers of Stourbridge and Dudley 1612–2001, author Jason Ellis has volunteered a special illustrated lecture at Stourbridge Glass Museum.

“I want to pass on the accumulated knowledge of this once world-leading industry while I still can.”

Jason’s research has always been genealogically based, because it is an understanding of the individuals involved and their familial relationships that weaves the rich tapestry of the wonderful heritage and craftsmanship of “Stourbridge” glass.

The pioneering work of Benjamin Richardson, from 1828 to 1888, led to him being described as “The Father of the Glass Trade.” He employed, influenced and inspired some of the greatest designers and makers of glass, including John Northwood, Philip Pargeter, William Jabez Muckley, Thomas Bott, the Guest brothers, Alphonse Lecheverel and Joseph Locke.

They all worked at the Wordsley Flint Glassworks, one of the earliest cones built in the area, which stood for over 170 years in the heart of the “Stourbridge” glass district.

Jason will cover the history of the glassworks, the Richardson family and their talented workmen in this fascinating illustrated talk.
