Find out more about Edward Elgar, the man behind the music, in one of our Elgar expert talks. Friday 4 September 12 - 12:30 pm : Who was Elgar? This might seem a simple question to answer - but it is far from simple. This 30 minute talk with examples from some of his music explains who he really was - and it's far from the person you thought you knew. 2 - 2:30 pm: The Story of Land of Hope & Glory Land of Hope and Glory is an anthem which divides the nation - but did Elgar actually write the song? This is the true story of Land of Hope and Glory - how it came to be written, and the supreme ironies which surround it. If you thought you knew the song well - think again! These are free talks (normal admission to The Firs applies).
