Saturday 5 September 2026, 10am - 4pm | The Commandery Delve into a fascinating day exploring Worcester's history - right where it happened here at The Commandery. Walk in the footsteps of Civil War soldiers as you watch demonstrations and explore living history encampments, hear from historian Kevin Goodman, and get hands-on with family activities. There's something for all ages to enjoy. This day commemorates the final battle of the English Civil War, which took place in Worcester, on its 375th anniversary. On 3 September 1651, the Parliamentarian army clashed with the Royalists, causing King Charles II to flee the city as Cromwell came out on top - for a time. The Commandery was Royalist Headquarters during the battle and has plenty of stories to tell. The Last Battle on Saturday 5 September is part of a series of events commemorating the battle's 375th year. What's on? You can ~ Watch Civil War military demonstrations from the time and take part in pike and cannon drills Enjoy short spotlight talks - including readings from letters written at the time Hear from medical historian Kevin Goodman about the brutal world of 17th-century battlefield surgery in two talks: Treating bullet wounds, 17th-century style and "O skull! I hold thee out": Treating the fractured skull Head up to Fort Royal and hear about how the battle unfolded Explore The Commandery, including the Civil War Story exhibition - find out the fate of your character at the Battle Table!
