12 - 12:30 pm : Who was Elgar?

This might seem a simple question to answer - but it is far from simple. This 30 minute talk with examples from some of his music explains who he really was - and it's far from the person you thought you knew.

2 - 2:30 pm: Why did Elgar give up serious composition?

After the death of his wife Alice in 1920, Elgar largely gave up serious composition. But was grief the only reason for his 14 year creative silence?

These are free talks (normal admission to The Firs applies).
