One day to enjoy a full day of 5Rhythms
I am very excited to be offering my first one-day workshop this Autumn. The image of the fox feels like a fitting symbol for me as I take a leap of faith into offering workshops.
I have chosen a venue close to Malvern, making it easy for local dancers and those travelling from Worcester. Tarrington is a lovely spacious venue with beautiful views and plenty of parking. I used to run my sessions there when I was a Spaceholder, and the hall holds many happy memories for me.
This is primarily a "Flowing" workshop and would be especially helpful to anyone who is new to the practise. Also suitable to those who have been dancing a while and want to feel into, and understand physically, this first rhythm in the 5Rhythms map.
Flowing invites us into movement through our senes, helping us to become aware of our internal landscape. We begin by feeling into our body parts and noticing where there might be tension or ease, discomfort or comfort, movement, stuckness or inertia. We are familia with our five senses - sight, sound, smell, touch, and taste - which bring information into the body. We also have another, perhaps less familia sense: interoception. This is our nervous system's ability to sense whats happening inside the body. Through interoception we can begin to listen to ourselves, physically and emotionally from the inside out.
In this workshop we will take time to feel into our bodies, discover our moving centres and allow movement to emerge from within us.
I have two dogs and three horses at present, and have shared my life with animals for as long as I can remember. I have befriended nervous horses and rescued unloved dogs and we have learnt ways to communicate with each other. I also sit regularly with trees and feel into frequencies they give out. One thing I know for sure is how clearly non humans read and respond to their internal worlds.
Through many years of teaching yoga and offering shiatsu, it has become increasingly apparent to me that our experiences are held within our bodies and that our movements can reflect this history - every knock and bump, every fright and trauma, every pleasure and bliss.
I feel that, as humans, we can become so preoccupied by the information coming in from the outside - from our environment - that we can lose touch with our inner knowing.
When we learn to listen through interospection we can find clarity and discernment, and can recognise what is true for ourselves rather than relaying entirely on external information to tell us how to respond.
Animals have a wisdom, which I feel we are in danger of losing. This workshop is an invitation to reconnect with that animal body - to listen more deeply and to trust what we feel, and to allow movement to arise from within.
