Look beyond the stone with expert-led architecture, archaeology and graffiti tours at Worcester Cathedral this autumn.

As part of a grant generously offered by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Worcester Cathedral is delighted to offer a series of expert-led tours in the Autumn of 2026 that explore the building's stonework, and the people who built it.

Discover the rich history of Worcester Cathedral this autumn through our engaging programme of architecture, archaeology, and graffiti tours. Explore the craftsmanship of its medieval builders, uncover fascinating archaeological discoveries, and learn about the stone masons' marks and inscriptions left by those who built, worked in and visited the Cathedral over the centuries. More than a remarkable historic building, the Cathedral has been a place of Christian worship, prayer and service for generations, and these tours reveal how its story continues today. Whether you're fascinated by history, inspired by architecture, moved by the Cathedral's story of faith, or simply curious to learn more, you'll gain a deeper appreciation of one of the region's most significant and enduring landmarks.

Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult. Adults and Under 18s must purchase tickets. Tours last 60 minute and may go outside. When booking tickets, please ensure you have clicked the correct date and tour at check-out.

All tours begin at Midday.

Architecture Tours are led by Camilla Finlay AABC RIBA, Cathedral Architect, on Tuesday 22nd September and Wednesday 14th October. £20pp.

Archaeology Tours are led by Fiona Keith-Lucas, Cathedral Archaeologist, on Monday 28th September and Wednesday 7th October. £20pp.

Graffiti Tours are led by Dr Ros Gammie FRHistS, Welcome & Engagement Manager, on Monday 14th September and Tuesday 20th October. £10pp.

About Reaching New Heights

The 'Reaching New Heights' project aims to repair and rebuild two pinnacles of the Cathedral tower, replacing temporary protection with a long-term solution - preserving the Cathedral’s historic fabric and mitigating the risk of further damage.

In November 2021, Storm Arwen’s 100mph winds caused the fall of a northeast pinnacle, reminding the community that the Cathedral must be actively preserved. Surveying undertaken identified that the northwest pinnacles were constructed in the same way as those on the northeast side. They were secured with temporary steel brackets but are in urgent need of rebuilding to prevent further damage and ensure the safety and integrity of the Cathedral.

As part of the project, the Cathedral will showcase the exceptional skills of its team of stonemasons, inspiring future generations and increasing public appreciation for heritage crafts.

The project will combine traditional craftsmanship with modern engineering, using Red Hollington stone and integrated steelwork, and will be delivered by the Cathedral’s experienced in-house team, supported by specialist consultants and volunteers.

Worcester Cathedral is delighted to announce the award of a £249,956 grant by The National Lottery Heritage Fund for its landmark project 'Reaching New Heights' - dedicated to the urgent repair and conservation of the Cathedral’s northwest pinnacles.

Thanks to National Lottery players, this award marks a significant step in safeguarding one of England’s most iconic heritage sites for future generations.
