About This Event

Short talks, big ideas Welcome to Women in Tech York's October event! Who are we? Women in Tech York is a community! We're made up of individuals studying, working in, or interested in technology. We run events where attendees can share their knowledge and interests, as well as encourage and empower one another whilst building their networks. Our events are not exclusive to women; absolutely everyone is welcome. You don't need to be a coder or consider yourself technical to enjoy and benefit from our events. We welcome all students and career-changers who are interested in learning more about tech and careers in the industry. Events run on the second Thursday of the month. As always, there will be a free buffet (vegan options available) thanks to our amazing sponsors Isotoma (https://isotoma.com/) and Jammed (https://jammed.app/). Please let us know about allergies in advance. Our Goals Our monthly events are designed to compliment our goals: ⭐ Feel included – Join a space where everyone is welcome. ⭐Explore your options – Discover new paths, ideas, and technologies. ⭐ Grow your network – Connect with like-minded people ⭐ Learn something new – Gain insights from speakers, panels, and discussions. Because we mix up the format each month, some events will be more social, while others might focus on talks or structured networking. This month... It's Lightning Talks! Shorter talks let us cover a broad range of different topics and ideas. We're joined by: 🗺️ Jeni Riordan (https://www.linkedin.com/in/jennifer-riordan/), a Product & Delivery champion with over 10 years of experience guiding multi-discipled teams to deliver impactful products for household names and the public sector. 🗝️ Rekha Jadhav (https://www.linkedin.com/in/rekha-j-72a9267/), an IAM project manage, with 10 years of experience in software development, who now works as a consultant securing identities. 🤖 Dr Yann Golanski (https://www.linkedin.com/in/dr-yann-golanski/), founder and director of Firmamentum Consulting, who help companies make more secure, robust, and efficient software in a drama free environment. Yann holds a DPhil in theoretical astrophysics and has served as a research fellow in applied mathematics, focusing on optimisation, graph, and game theories. Before the term “DevOps” was coined, he was a DevOps in charge of the largest email system in Europe. Yann's professional journey includes researching new algorithms in metrology, programming command and control systems for giant underwater robots, and serving as a director of cybersecurity and governance. He has extensive experience leading development, software quality assurance, and DevOps teams. This month our event is designed to help you explore your options. Speak for us! Submit your talk details here (https://forms.gle/kibhGHcEQWMeTPKg7) - we review submissions monthly as a team and vote for the talks we'd most like to hear.
