A Taste of the Regency Era at The Sepoy Club in Bath will feature Indian-inspired dishes inspired by Austen’s England for the Jane Austen Festival.
Dine like it's 1815: Bath restaurant revives the Indian flavours of Austen's England for the Jane Austen Festival. The Sepoy Club, the independent Indian restaurant on Broad Street, will celebrate the 2026 Jane Austen Festival (11–20th September) with A Taste of the Regency Era — a three-course menu inspired by the dishes that first connected Britain and India two hundred years ago. Curry is far more Regency than many festival-goers might imagine. The first curry recipe published in an English cookbook appeared in Hannah Glasse's The Art of Cookery in 1747, and by 1810 — while Austen was at work on the novels that made her name — Britain's first Indian restaurant, the Hindostanee Coffee House, had opened in London. Austen herself lived in Bath from 1801 to 1806, a short walk from Broad Street. Menu Includes the restaurant's signature Langri Chicken Curry, Rose & Cardamom Kulfi and a complimentary Rose Lemonade or Elderflower Spritz on arrival, with vegetarian and vegan choices in every course. Tickets £25 per person Guests who dine in full Regency dress will be welcomed with a complimentary Regency Punch — mixed to a Georgian recipe of dark rum, lime, black tea and nutmeg. Booking is strongly advised for festival weekends.
