Sip & Support Puberty and Personal Hygiene is a women-only event held at Madrasah Tuyoorul Jannah in Blackburn. Discussions cover faith, culture, growing up, privacy, puberty and menstrual hygiene. Tickets are free.
Lets talk about the things we don't always talk about...faith, culture & growing up. Period and Menstrual hygiene, puberty & privacy
Join us for our next Sip ‘n Support, a relaxed and supportive space for female parents and carers of young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
This session will focus on a topic that can sometimes be difficult to talk about:
Puberty & Personal Hygiene
Puberty can bring new challenges for any young person, but for those with learning disabilities, understanding changes to their body, developing personal-care skills and learning about privacy and boundaries may require additional support.
For parents and carers, it can also raise questions that we don't always feel comfortable asking.
Let's talk about the things we don't always talk about.
The Learning Disability Health Facility Team will join us to help parents and carers explore some of these issues in a friendly, culturally and religiously sensitive environment.
Topics may include:
Periods and menstrual hygiene
Intimate hygiene and personal care
Body changes during puberty
Privacy and appropriate boundaries
Supporting greater independence with personal care
Knowing when and how to step back as a carer
Ghusl, cleanliness and modesty
Approaching sensitive conversations with a young person with learning disabilities
An opportunity to ask questions and discuss concerns
Women Only
This particular Sip ‘n Support session is for women only, allowing mothers and female carers the opportunity to discuss sensitive issues openly and comfortably.
A further Puberty & Personal Hygiene session open to both men and women will follow, insha'Allah.
☕ Come along, have a cuppa and join the conversation.
