An interview with Punk photographer Wayne 'Spike' Large
Join us at Blackpool Community Darkroom for a screening of our recorded interview with punk photographer Wayne ‘Spike’ Large
Wayne was there photographing the early Punk scene as it happened, capturing the energy, characters and chaos of a movement that changed British music and culture. His photographs document the people and places around Punk starting in the late 1970s and building an important visual record of the era and movement.
Wayne was kind enough to spend time talking with some of the Darkroom crew about his life, his photography and his experiences of being behind the camera during one of the most exciting periods in British music history. He shares some of the stories behind his photographs and of his life, what it has been like to photograph the punk scene from the inside.
It's particularly fitting that Wayne's work is being celebrated again this year, with his photography shortlisted for the Abbey Road Music Photography Awards 2026, which includes a special 50 Years of Punk category celebrating images that capture the enduring spirit, attitude and community of punk.
Come along, watch the interview, discover more about Wayne's life and work; an evening of photography, stories and punk history
