WHAT IS TRANSFORMATIONAL THEATRE?
Christina has developed an approach that brings together traditional acting, voice and movement training with Conscious Connected Breathwork, mythology, archetypes, imagination and personal exploration.
Acting asks us to step outside our everyday selves and experience the world through another character. By exploring different lives, emotions, relationships and situations within the safety and structure of theatre, we can develop not only as performers but as more imaginative, expressive and empathetic human beings.
Transformational Theatre uses this process deliberately.
Rather than simply learning lines and performing them, students are encouraged to explore the inner life of a character: their emotions, motivations, physicality, conflicts and desires. The aim is to create performances that feel truthful, connected and alive.
MYTHS & ARCHETYPES
Myths and archetypes form an important part of the Artemis approach.
Ancient stories contain characters and conflicts that reflect experiences found throughout human life – love, loss, power, fear, courage, identity, relationships and transformation.
Drawing upon ideas associated with Jungian psychology, students will explore archetypes as a tool for characterisation and imagination.
Working with myth also allows actors to investigate powerful emotions and human experiences through the world of a character or story, rather than simply through their own personal lives.
MOVEMENT & VOICE
An actor's body and voice are fundamental instruments of performance.
Movement work helps develop physical freedom, expression, flexibility and imagination. Students will explore how posture, movement, gesture and physical energy can completely change the creation of a character.
Voice training will develop projection, breath control, vocal strength, flexibility and confidence – skills that are valuable not only on stage but in public speaking, teaching, presentations and everyday communication.
CONSCIOUS CONNECTED BREATHWORK
Alongside traditional breathing techniques used for voice and projection, Artemis incorporates Conscious Connected Breathwork into its training.
Christina has studied and taught breathwork and personal development practices extensively for more than 40 years.
Within the acting process, breathwork is used to encourage relaxation, energy, imagination, emotional connection and greater freedom of expression. It can help performers become more aware of physical and emotional tension and develop the confidence to explore a wider range of feelings within character work.

At the heart of Acting Out! is the belief that theatre can be transformative.
