The OA Toolbox workshop will take place on 10 November 2026 at Southern Counties Veterinary Specialists. This event will focus on the evidence and management of canine osteoarthritis.
Evidence, Experience and Multimodal Management of Canine Osteoarthritis
The management of canine osteoarthritis has evolved well beyond anti-inflammatory medication alone. Veterinarians now have access to a wide range of treatment options, including pharmaceuticals, physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, laser therapy, shockwave therapy, acupuncture, nutraceuticals, and intra-articular treatments.
At SCVS, we are fortunate to offer most of these modalities and have gained valuable experience through our dedicated osteoarthritis and pain management clinics. This discussion-based CPD session will combine a review of the current evidence with practical insights gained from managing osteoarthritis patients in clinical practice.
Rather than presenting a prescriptive treatment algorithm, the session will encourage open discussion around what works, what remains uncertain, and what can realistically be implemented in first-opinion practice. Participants will be invited to share their own experiences, challenges, and approaches to multimodal osteoarthritis management.
Learning Objectives:
Review current evidence for multimodal management of canine osteoarthritis.
Discuss the practical application of a range of conservative treatment options.
Explore lessons learned from SCVS dedicated osteoarthritis and pain management clinics.
Consider what can realistically be implemented in first-opinion practice.
Share experiences and discuss challenging cases in an open and collaborative environment.
