About This Event

Making Memories is a workshop hosted at The Craft House in Bradford on 13 September 2026. Led by Helen, participants will learn to sew a memento from meaningful textiles provided or brought along for the session. Tickets are priced at £85.00. This event runs concurrently with Doncaster's ghost fair, which is a trade listing unrelated to this public workshop.

Spend as relaxing and informative day sewing with Helen and transform a meaningful piece of textile into a keepsake to treasure.

Some fabrics carry more than pattern and colour — a christening gown, a loved one's shirt, a well-worn baby blanket.

In this thoughtful full-day session, join Helen Plumridge-Hill* to transform a meaningful piece of textile into a keepsake you'll treasure: think memory cushions, bears, patchwork hearts, or a small framed piece, using your own fabric or offcuts provided on the day.

With the whole day to work at a relaxed pace, you'll learn simple hand and machine techniques for working with delicate or sentimental fabric, and leave with a considered memento and the confidence to work with textiles that matter to you.

Note: This session assumes basic competence with a sewing machine.

*Tutor Bio:

Helen Plumridge-Hill is a Bingley-based sewer, maker and educator with a particular love of giving fabric a second life and giving people time to just create. Wherever possible she works with reclaimed and repurposed textiles — vintage hauls, offcuts and remnants, worn garments, bedding and curtains — turning what might be thrown away into something new and wearable.

With over 25 years working in education and design, and more creative hobbies collected along the way than she can count, Helen finally picked up a sewing machine in 2023 and hasn't stopped since — sewing has become almost like meditation to her.

Helen teaches relaxed, hands-on sessions that focus on building real confidence at the machine, whether that's a total beginner learning to thread up for the first time or someone ready to make their first garment. Her classes are as much about the process of sustainable, thoughtful making and connection as they are about the finished piece.
