Spend time the day with your colleagues supporting Sussex Wildlife Trust with important conservation work across Sussex.

This active habitat management work is essential conservation work where you will learn about the habitat and wildlife of Woods Mill nature reserve.

Tasks will be set according to the season and the specific requirements at the time but are likely to include hay raking, bramble and scrub maintenance, birch pulling or holly thinning in the Autumn/Winter season; Himalayan balsam pulling or path improvement works in Spring; and bracken pulling in Summer.

We will take a group photo at the end of the day to share with your organisation and promote the good work you've achieved with us.

We do charge for these bespoke events to cover staff time, resources and insurance. The minimum number of people we can run a session for is 6 people with a maximum of 30.

Small Group of 6-15 people: £700 + VAT

Large Group of 16-30 people: £1,000 + VAT

A 10% deposit (exclusive of VAT), plus booking fee, is required to confirm your space. VAT will be charged on the final invoice for the full amount.

Parking and charges: There is free parking available at the reserve. We encourage you to car share as much as possible.

Toilets: Public toilets, including an accessible toilet, can be found in the car park.

Accessibility: This event takes place in a natural woodland setting. If you have any specific access needs that you would like to discuss, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

What should I wear?

Please wear clothes suitable for the weather and you don’t mind getting dirty. Long sleeved top and trousers are advisedto help avoid scratches and insect bites. Layers are usually best so you can add or remove as necessary.

Have sturdy boots or wellies to wear whilst taking part in the activity.

What do I need to bring with me?

Please bring refillable bottles for drinking water. We are an environmental charity and highly discourage single-use plastic bottles.

If you are attending a full day session, please bring a packed lunch, ideally in a reusable container.

It's worth bringing cameras and binoculars if you have them, and we'd love to see your photos, stories and blogs about your day with us.

Don’t forget any medication you may need. You are advised to be up to date with your tetanus immunisation

We recommend you bring suntan lotion/insect repellent as required

At most sites there is no facility to leave bags/valuables. We recommend bringing your personal items in a rucksack which can be easily carried with you.

What is provided by Sussex Wildlife Trust?

We will provide all tools and gloves as well as all safety equipment required.

We will show you how to use all tools safely.

A first aider will be available and all volunteers are covered by our insurance when with us.

What if my session is cancelled?

Most activities will go ahead in rain, snow, wind and sometimes even sunshine! You will be informed if your session is unable to go ahead and a new date will be arranged. If you are not contacted, the event will be going ahead as planned.

Cancellation Policy: Cancellations and rescheduling requests should be made only in exceptional circumstances, with at least 10 working days’ notice. Cancellations made with fewer than 10 working days’ notice will be charged in full. If a booking forms part of a contractual agreement for a set number of sessions, it will be counted as a delivered session even if it does not go ahead. While we will make every effort to accommodate rescheduling requests and changes to the number of participants, this cannot be guaranteed.
