About This Event

Making Slow Music Together is an in-person event in Lewes on 25 November 2026, focusing on creating meditative music using percussion and voice. Led by Marisa from Hema Sounds and musician Isaac Jengwa, the gathering welcomes participants of all musical backgrounds to explore sound and rhythm in a collaborative environment.

A cosy gathering listening to uplifting and soulful songs and exploring simple and soothing rhythms together using percussion and voice.

Making slow music together, Sound Meditation and Voice is a welcoming, in-person event for the general public, with no musical experience needed.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to create meditative music with other people? A collaboration between Marisa from Sussex based Hema Sounds (https://hemasoundtherapy.com) and Zimbabwean musician Isaac Jengwa (https://isaacjengwa.com/), we’ll slow down, connect with our inner creative spirit and have fun. This isn’t about performance or learning music: we’ll use sound, rhythm, voice and simple instruments to invite calm, presence and joy.

What to expect

A welcome circle with grounding instruments and intention setting

A chance to explore and play healing sound instruments, including mbira, guitar, chimes, shakers and crystal bowls

Guided drumming, humming, singing, mantras and movement

A gentle, immersive sound bath to encourage deep relaxation and soothe the nervous system

Tea and chatter

Leave feeling grounded, balanced, uplifted and calmer.

Absolutely NO musical experience needed — this is not about performance or learning music.

Together we’ll create a welcoming, playful, supportive space to:

discover simple ways to self-regulate using the voice and exploring rhythms, movement and harmonising sounds

awaken your inner creative spirit by connecting with self and others through sound

experience the calming, stress releasing effects of sound

Testimonials

Heather

I felt very relaxed, I'm not musical but I know we all have music within us. It didn't feel intimidating. I liked the balance of the sound bath but also I loved the music and the reciprocal use of the voice. I really enjoyed that.

Nancy

I really enjoyed the interactive session you and Isaac held the other day. I've been spending a little of my time and focus lately working on the flow of energy around my throat chakra so it was perfectly timed for me, and really got me thinking.

I'd like to incorporate more sound and some instruments into my personal practice. I'm particularly drawn to the tibetan bowl/s and the drum.

L

My daughter came away saying she felt better after the session, despite her autistic and fibromyalgic challenges, so it was very positive.

We can't wait to share the magic of sound with you.
