About This Event

Circus Kinetica - The Soap Factory hosts Pioneering the Potential 2026 on 6 November 2026 at Phoenix Works in Lewes. Ben Bosence from Local Works Studio discusses waste brick projects and carbon footprint reduction with museum architects. The event explores clay, earth and soil-based materials developed for the Design Museum Gent.

Ben Bosence, Local Works Studio's waste brick for the new Design Museum Gent and Alice Hardy on the Triangle New Story Garden community hub

Ben Bosence, a specialist in clay, earth and soil-based materials, is a co-founder Local Works Studio (https://localworksstudio.com/), a materials studio working out of Barcombe, Sussex. Ben will be talking about LWS's work with the just re-opened Design Museum Gent (https://designmuseumgent.be/en) on a specially developed Gent Waste Brick (https://bcmaterials.org/en/gent-waste-brick) (made out of local waste material and reducing the bricks carbon footprint by two thirds.) A collaboration with the museum’s architects, CamodyGroarke (https://carmodygroarke.com/) and Belgian materials specialists BC Materials (https://bcmaterials.org/en), this is the latest in the studio’s ten years of research and live projects (https://localworksstudio.com/projects/) focused on developing circular low to no carbon material strategies and solutions.

Alice Hardy is Global Generation's Community Build Manager and has worked as an architect. Alice’s particular interest in how communities can be involved in the design and construction of the built environment has been realised with the New Story Garden (the Triangle) a first permanent home and hub for the community organisation, Global Generation, which provide mixed community programmes fusing urban food growing, self-build, cooking and eating together with story-telling, and reflection.
