Discover the fascinating history of Glenside Hospital Museum, from mental health care to its role as a First World War hospital.

Join us for a short introductory talk before a private tour of Glenside Hospital Museum, located within the grounds of the former psychiatric hospital, currently home to UWE Bristol’s Glenside Campus.

Housed in the 1881 Grade II listed asylum church, the museum tells three fascinating local hospital stories, exploring the history of mental health and learning disability care, as well as the site’s role as a First World War hospital.

The talk will provide an introduction to the history of Glenside and the museum before guests explore the collection on a private guided tour, including the church’s spectacular stained-glass windows and its unique carved Nativity scene above the altar.

This special visit forms part of 30 years of UWE Bristol at Glenside, offering an opportunity to discover more about the rich history of the site.

The Museum is wheelchair accessible, with the exception of our altar area where there is a step to the final metre of the display.

We have an accessible toilet.

There is lot to see, and some audio, but we do not currently offer audio descriptions.
