Route description
As the winter sun rises, we'll leave Edale behind us and immediately start the climb of the "Shivering Mountain", Mam Tor, the highest point (517m) of our hike. It's then a very pleasant and undulating ridge walk, passing Hollins Cross before a sharp ascent of Back Tor to arrive at Lose Hill, close to midday. After the descent into Hope Valley we begin our second big climb of the day, Win Hill, a fine summit to enjoy our main lunch stop. Another descent takes us deep into the forest above Ladybower before we follow the reservoir for a couple of miles, popping back up into the Vale of Edale as the sun sets at the far end of the valley. Aside from a punchy climb of Jagger's Clough, it's then a relatively gentle last three miles back into Edale as dusk descends. One of our finest circular hikes to wrap 2026 in style.
