About This Event

The Anne Docwra event will take place at Friends Meeting House in Cambridge on 15 September 2026. The event is free to attend and will feature various performers. The event will focus on the life of Anne Docwra.

Anne Docwra was self-taught in law, a feisty participant in the seventeenth-century pamphlet wars, and a prolific preacher of Quakerism.

A gentlewoman, but not wealthy, she gave Cambridge a Quaker Meeting House and burial ground, and set up a charity which to this day benefits Cambridgeshire and Peterborough people who are living in poverty. Take a chair in the Meeting House on the site of her home and find out how she did it!
