New Routes - Winter Solstice Special with Kitewing and Chris Cleverley is planned for February 12th at the Cambridge Junction, offering an evening of acoustic, folk and roots artists in a cabaret style setting.

Another instalment in the New Routes series, an evening of acoustic, folk and roots artists. Set out cabaret style with candles on tables, it’s a comfortable and intimate space to listen to the best emerging and established artists from the area. Featuring… Kitewing Soaring harmonies and roaring fiddles combine with guitar, mandolin and banjo to play songs of the sea, migration and environmental struggle. The pulse of the natural world is the core of this band. Driving tune sets and compelling instrumentals weave throughout the ‘Kitewing’ set, a band that unites two critically acclaimed UK groups ‘The Shackleton Trio’ and ‘Christina Alden & Alex Patterson’. This ensemble of award-winning musicians has extensively toured the UK, Europe, and Scandinavia, and collectively have achieved national airplay on BBC Radio 2, BBC 3 live sessions, BBC Radio 4, BBC 6 Music and RTÉ Radio 1. February 2024 marked the release of their debut album ‘Kitewing’ to critical acclaim with accompanying UK tour and a string of summer festival dates. ‘Songs that glide across land and water, history and the present’ Songlines ‘Beautiful songs’ Mark Radcliffe, BBC Radio 2 ‘Gorgeous harmonies and lush melodies’ BBC Countryfile ‘Virtuosic playing… this could well be the best new folk album that you will hear this year’ Outline ‘Superb British folk music…perfectly balanced and greatly talented’ Folking Chris Cleverley Ambient Dream-Folk artist Chris Cleverley brings a special alternative festive performance to Cambridge this Winter, sharing songs from his two critically acclaimed Christmas records ‘In the Shadow of John the Divine’ and ‘Gods Of All Things’ (“Holiday Music that doesn’t suck!” – No Depression). This bittersweet festive compendium for our head-spinning modern age, combines brand new songs and reworkings of traditional carols, celebrating this curious, magical season, in all its joyful and melancholic contradictions. Cleverley’s combination of intricate fingerstyle guitar and lush ambient soundscapes take inspiration from the Lo-fi American Greats, Elliott Smith, Sufjan Stevens & Phoebe Bridgers; A curious tapestry weaved from the hazy psychedelia of the 60s folk revival and the soulful oblivion of the 90s Pacific Northwest. Whether you love or loathe the festive period, this rare performance promises a welcoming, serene and reflective space for all to unwind in their own way, as the year draws to a close.
