Prof. Ellis will deliver a lecture at the Margaret Beaufort Institute of Theology, challenging scientific nihilism and discussing the search for God in a value-laden world.
Prof. Ellis's Lecture rejects scientific nihilism, using expansive naturalism to find God in our value-laden world.
The Lash Lecture will be delivered by Professor Fiona Ellis (https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/humanities/departments/Philosophy/People/fiona.ellis), Professor of Philosophy and Head of the Department of Philosophy. Her research explores questions at the intersection of philosophy, theology and religion, with particular interests in meaning, nihilism, desire, spiritual alienation, and the relationship between nature and God.
Professor Ellis has recently completed her book, The End of Desire: Meaning, Nihilism, and God, and is a Senior Fellow on the three-year Templeton-funded Godless Religion project at the University of St Andrews. Her current work examines the nature and limits of natural theology and asks what it might mean today to find a path “from nature to God”.
In From Nihilism to God: Challenging a Familiar Story, Professor Ellis will bring these wider philosophical questions into conversation with one of the most persistent narratives about meaning, belief and the possibility of God.
Join us on 25 November for an evening of philosophical and theological reflection.
