About This Event

On 15 October 2026, 'Caring for Canterbury - past, present & future' will take place at the Friends Meeting House in Canterbury. The session will discuss aspects of city life and potential challenges facing Canterbury.

What makes a city a good place in which to live and what can be done to tackle the challenges currently facing Canterbury and other cities?

Canterbury Society’s annual Civic Lecture will focus on the quality of life in Canterburyand other cities. What makes a city a good place in which to live? What are the challenges currently facing Canterbury and other cities? What can planners, councillors, community groups and local people do to enhance the quality of life locally?

You are invited to come along to hear talks and join in a discussion about the answers to these questions. Abooklet on the history of the Canterbury Society will be launched (with free copies made available for those present). This will lead on to presentations about the work of civic societies more generally, and to a discussion of plans for the future – in which Canterbury will be part of a larger East Kent Unitary Authority.

Brief presentations will include:

Presentation on ‘Civic Voice and Civic Societies’: Speaker: John Walker

Presentation 'All together now? Canterbury Society, a Town Council and the new Unitary Council’: Speaker: Dave Wilson
