What if culture wasn’t something you watched, but something you could feel?
Imagine stepping into a gathering where every part of you is invited. Your breath slows. Your body begins to move. Music fills the space. The smell of freshly brewed tea rises from the table. You taste flavours that have travelled across generations. You leave not only having learned about a culture, but having embodied it.
Silk Road Joy is a series of immersive gatherings inspired by the cultures of the Silk Road, where movement, food and creativity become a shared experience.
Each gathering begins by arriving in the body through breath, mindfulness and gentle somatic movement. From there, we gradually explore movement inspired by different Silk Road traditions, not to perform them perfectly, but to experience them with curiosity and joy. The gathering gently unfolds into a shared dance where everyone is welcome, whether you love dancing or have never danced before.
Movement then leads us to another universal language: food and drink.
Together we’ll explore simple seasonal dishes inspired by Silk Road cultures, using ingredients from the garden whenever possible. Each gathering becomes a conversation between local produce and traditions that have travelled across continents for centuries.
First Gathering: Dance & Chai
We’ll begin by arriving in the body with gentle breathwork and somatic movement, before exploring simple hand gestures, flowing arm movements and dance inspired by Persian traditions. Together, we’ll let the music guide us into a shared rhythm, discovering how movement can become a language of connection.
After dancing, we’ll gather around the table for a traditional Persian tea ceremony. Together we’ll learn how to brew Persian tea infused with cinnamon sticks, cardamom pods and dried rose petals, before serving it in delicate Persian tea glasses. We’ll enjoy our tea with dates filled with walnuts and lightly scented with rosewater, sharing stories and conversation in the spirit of Persian hospitality.
