About This Event

Authors in Type is a free exhibition by British typewriter artist James Cook, bringing together 50 portraits of some of the world’s most celebrated writers, each created entirely using the letters, numbers and punctuation marks of a typewriter. From William Shakespeare and Jane Austen to Ernest Hemingway and Stephen King, the exhibition celebrates authors from across generations, countries and genres. Look closely and you will discover how thousands of individually typed characters have been layered together to create each portrait. The exhibition at Colchester Library coincides with the release of James’s first book, Authors in Type, which brings the complete collection together in print for the first time. Free to visit throughout October, with no booking or ticket required. Simply drop in during normal library opening hours.
