The Branching Beneath the Fields Exhibition will be held in Abbot's Hall at the Food Museum in Colchester between 3 October and 1 November. This event explores the network of fungi beneath fields that trade nutrients with plant roots. Admission requires a ticket for entry to the venue.
Exhibition in Abbot’s Hall, 3 October – 1 November Beneath every field lies a hidden network of thread-like fungi, trading nutrients with the roots of the crops we eat, a relationship as old as plant life itself, and usually invisible to us. In Branching Beneath the Fields, a mixed media installation by Annabel Howland, this underground world is made visible through microscope images, drawings, sculpture and sound. The work explores the intricate partnership between mycorrhizal fungi and the roots of East Anglian crops: the fungi feed the crops, and the crops, in turn, feed the fungi, a hidden exchange that ultimately feeds us. Created in collaboration with food producers, scientists at the University of Cambridge and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, and the Institute for Sustainable Worlds at Norwich University of the Arts. Free with admission Love thought-provoking exhibitions? Why not take a look at Akenfield Revisited whilst you’re here Want to learn more about fungi?
