If you’ve ever tasted a proper heirloom tomato straight off the vine, you already know why we’re devoting a full day to them. This masterclass is for anyone who wants to grow tomatoes with real flavour, history and character.

We’ll start with why heirloom tomatoes are worth the effort, then introduce you to storage tomatoes. These are traditional varieties that you harvest by the whole truss and hang somewhere cool and dark, so you can keep eating fresh tomatoes well into winter. You’ll sow micro tomatoes, get our tomato propagation masterclass, and walk through our tomato polytunnel at the peak of the season. You’ll also get the chance to taste some of our rare varieties!

We’ll also teach you how to save seed from your own tomatoes. It’s one of the most satisfying things a grower can do, and it means your favourite varieties stay with you year after year.

You’ll go home with a seed tray you’ve sown yourself and a head full of tomato know how.

Good to know

We’ll spend most of the day in our polytunnel, so dress for the weather. That means layers, sturdy shoes, and something waterproof if the sky looks moody - although we will be mostly under cover! Tunnels can be properly warm on a sunny day too. Please tell us about any dietary needs or access requirements when you book.
