On the Hunt for Aliens is a workshop scheduled for 9 November 2026 at Blackrock Castle Observatory in Cork. Participants will explore the search for extraterrestrial life and engage in discussions about strange new worlds. Attendance is free.
Join the exploration of strange new worlds and the search for intelligent life in the universe!
We are far away from Star Trek’s ability to scan for life from orbit, but we have been looking for alien life for a while now (and found one exciting candidate). We will look for alien life near and far, studying the strange new worlds that might host alien life forms. It is unlikely that in this event, we will meet new civilizations, but if you join Dr Alfredo Carpineti, you will find out why those civilizations — Klingon and Vulcan included — might already know that we are here.
Combining astrophysics, space exploration and a love of all things SciFi, this evening at Blackrock Castle Observatory is perfect for curious minds, aspiring space explorers and fans of all ages.
In honour of Star Trek’s 60th birthday year, there will be space candy and communication badges for all life forms!
