This talk will explore the lives of lifeboatmen between 1802 and 1861 through heroic and tragic life stories.
There have been lifeboats in Dublin Bay since 1802. These were run initially by the Dublin Port authorities until they were subsumed into the R.N.L.I. in 1861. A great many heroic rescues have been carried out throughout the whole period up to the present time. There have also been several tragedies when lifeboatmen were lost in attempting to save others. Cormac will be discussing many of these in addition to showing many of the boats that have been on station around the bay over the years. He will also be mentioning some of the crews of the lifeboats who performed during rescues and describing the medals and awards that were given. He will be showing a great many rare and interesting images.

This talk will explore the lives of lifeboatmen between 1802 and 1861 through heroic and tragic life stories.
There have been lifeboats in Dublin Bay since 1802. These were run initially by the Dublin Port authorities until they were subsumed into the R.N.L.I. in 1861. A great many heroic rescues have been carried out throughout the whole period up to the present time. There have also been several tragedies when lifeboatmen were lost in attempting to save others.
