This talk will explore research undertaken through mapping, documenting and investigating some of the many shipwrecks lost off the coast.

Dublin’s long standing maritime tradition is as strong today as it ever was and manifests itself in many ways ranging from active coastal communities and recreational use of the sea to vibrant fishing fleets and commercial shipping traffic entering and departing Dublin Port. With such large volumes of traffic since the earliest times it not surprising that Dublin has one of the highest densities of shipwrecks anywhere along the Irish coast. This talk by Karl Brady, Underwater Archaeology Unit, National Monuments Service, will present an illustrated update on research undertaken through mapping, documenting and investigating some of the many shipwrecks lost off the Dublin Coast with a particular focus on discoveries made in recent times.
