The Douglas Hyde is a leading platform for contemporary art in Ireland, bringing the best of international contemporary art to Ireland and the best of Irish contemporary art to the world. Located in the heart of Dublin city, it was founded in 1978 by Trinity College Dublin and the Arts Council of Ireland, making history as Ireland’s first public gallery dedicated to contemporary art and first university gallery.

This Summer, The Douglas Hyde is delighted to present Matters of time, the first solo exhibition in Ireland by Libyan artist Nour Jaouda which continues her ongoing exploration of thefluidity of cultural identity. Jaouda’s multi-layered textile works traverse the languages of painting, sculpture and installation to produce ‘landscapes of memory’. Acknowledging the crucial role artists play in influencing and shaping other artistic practices, The Artist’s Eye series asks those exhibiting in Gallery 1 to invite an artist of influence to present work in Gallery 2. In this instalment, Nour Jaouda has invited artist Tamara Kalo.

Rachael Gunning is the 2026 Provost’s Curatorial Fellow at The Douglas Hyde, working with the team across exhibitions and the learning and engagement programme. Holding a BA in History of Art and Philosophy from Trinity College Dublin, she recently received a First-Class Honours MSc in Modern and Contemporary Art History from the University of Edinburgh, where she was awarded the Baldwin Brown Prize for her dissertation.
