At this lunchtime event, poets Kit Fryatt, Christodoulos Makris, and Bebe Ashley perform original work responding to our festival theme, Literature and the Digital Age. Discover how technology and the internet is shaping the power of the human voice in contemporary poetry.

Dr Kit Fryatt

Kit Fryatt is a member of staff in the School of English at DCU. His recent publications include Book of Inversions (with Harry Gilonis, Veer2, 2025), a collection of poems based on medieval and early modern Irish originals. all things that are passing (with Ellen Dillon) a poetic sequence about holy wells in Ardmore, Co. Waterford, is forthcoming from Spite Press.

Christodoulos Makris

Christodoulos Makris is the author of five books of poetry, as well as several limited edition publications, audiovisual works, digital projects and other poetry objects. His work has appeared in The Guardian, Poetry Ireland Review, The Stinging Fly, Granta, fallow and elsewhere. He was Writer in Residence at Maynooth University (2018-19), and held the inaugural Joseph M. Hassett Creativity Bursary (Poetry) at University College Dublin (2021-22). Recent awards include a Curatorial Commission from Museum of Literature Ireland (2024), an Artist Residency at Irish Arts Center, New York (2025), and a Public Poetry Commission from Cúirt International Festival of Literature (2025).

Bebe Ashley

Bebe Ashley lives in Northern Ireland. Her debut poetry collection Gold Light Shining (Banshee Press, 2020) was selected as one of 21 Irish titles to be celebrated on Culture Night 2022 through the Read Mór programme. Bebe’s second poetry collection Harbour Doubts (Banshee Press, 2025) was Highly Commended in the Forward Prizes for Poetry, and selected for Irish Book Day, a book gifting project in Washington D.C. Work from Harbour Doubts has been 3D-Printed into Braille and featured in an exhibition in MOLI and previously won the Ivan Juritz Prize for Creative Experiment (Text).

This event is part of Literature and the Digital Age, a day-long series of free events at DCU St Patrick’s campus (11am - 8.40pm) exploring how technology is changing how we write, read, and tell stories. Curated by Marcella Bannon (DCU Cultural Arts) and Colin Barrett (Arts Council Writer in Residence), the programme includes an open mic and poetry session, afternoon panel discussion and an evening launch event for CTRL: Essays on Video Games.
