Welcome back to Overbooked, the book club for the gal who does it all but also deserves a night off.
We’re back on Sunday, 25 October at Delahunt, and this month we have a very special guest joining us!
📖 This month’s read is The Woman in the Water by Henrietta McKervey.
Set in England during the Abdication Crisis of 1936, this atmospheric historical novel follows Pearl, a young woman whose friendship with the wealthy and complicated Eleanor draws her into a world of loyalty, betrayal, grief and shifting power. Against a backdrop of social and political change, the novel explores marriage, independence and the expectations placed on women at the time. Inspired by an unanswered mystery in Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca, it gives a backstory to a woman whose story is left untold.
✨ Very special guest:
Henrietta McKervey will be joining us for a Q&A! She was highly recommended to us by Sarah Gilmartin, who joined us for our Service author Q&A. We’ll get to chat with Henrietta about the book, her characters, the historical setting and the ideas behind the story. Make sure to write down any questions that come to mind while you’re reading so you can ask her on the day :)
✨ wine of the month:
This month we're drinking Le Vin des Amis by Jean-François Coutelou. A natural red from the Languedoc in southern France, this is an easy-drinking, fruit-forward wine with a fresh, lively character. The name translates to “the wine of friends" :) Add one to your ticket at check-out to enjoy alongside next months book.
✨ What’s included:
🍾 A welcome glass of bubbly (alcoholic or non-alcoholic)
💬 A bookish afternoon with great people
✍️ Live Q&A with Henrietta McKervey
🍷 A curated natural wine list by Frank’s wine bar
📚 Access to our book swap (bring a book, take a book)
📅 Date: Sunday, 25 October
🕓 Time: 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM (we may run a little later with the author Q&A)
📍 Location: Delahunt, 39 Camden Street Lower
