This one-day workshop teaches participants how to create a bouquet of colourful flowers using recycled tins. It will be held at Off The Rails Arthouse in Glasgow on 13 September 2026. The price for the session is £65.
at Come and give old biscuit and sweet tins a bright new life and create a bouquet of colourful flowers in a vase in this fun one-day workshop with metalwork artist Philippa Johnston. Go big and bold with funky shapes or opt for something more intricate and naturalistic. Templates will be available for the flowers shown in the photograph, and for other spring and autumn blooms, but you can of course work with your own drawings. Bring them along or draw them on the day. We’ll have plenty of tin and real flowers on hand for inspiration. We’ll be connecting the tin with a pop riveter which is very use to use so no soldering involved. You can expect to come away with a vase of three of more flowers to adorn your wall. This is a great introduction to working with tin – how to open up a tin and cut safely, use a sand cushion for distressing, work with templates, and more. All materials and tools will be supplied but if you have any particular tins you would like to incorporate, do bring them along and Philippa will open them up for you. No experience required – just come and explore working with this wonderful (and free!) material in this friendly and informal class. Suitable for 18+. Eight places. Philippa Johnston is a metalwork artist based in Dunning in Perthshire who works sculpturally with recycled tin, wire, clay and other materials. Her work has drawing at its heart and reflects her love of nature and fascination with folk and children’s art. Philippa is currently working on a new wire installation project, Frida’s house, a playful reimagining of Frida Kahlo’s Casa Azul with its flora and fauna.
