A fully funded, practical workshop for East Sussex businesses that want to reduce energy costs, understand where their money is going and make smarter decisions about energy efficiency.

Energy bills arrive every month. You know there are probably things you could do differently, but knowing what is actually worth doing, what to prioritise and where to start can be much harder.

Energy efficiency advice can sometimes feel unrealistic. Perhaps you have been told you need to insulate your entire building, install solar panels or invest in expensive new equipment. But what if you do not have the budget for that? What if you rent your premises? Or what if you simply do not know whether that investment would be the best use of your money?

This workshop is about taking a practical approach to your energy use. Based on your business, your premises and the decisions you can actually make.

How do I know if this is for me?

This workshop could be useful if:

Your energy bills are higher than you would like, but you are not sure what is driving the cost or what you can realistically do about it.

You know your business could probably use less energy, but you do not know where to start.

You have been told you need a major investment - insulation, solar panels or new equipment, for example, but the cost feels unrealistic.

You rent your premises and are unsure what you can change, what sits with your landlord, or how much influence you actually have.

You are considering spending money on energy efficiency but want a better way to judge whether an investment is worthwhile.

Energy prices feel like something that just happens to your business, and you would like to understand where you can take more control.

You want to make your business more sustainable, but need practical actions rather than another list of things you “should” be doing.

You do not need any technical knowledge and there is no minimum level of energy use required. The workshop is designed for owners, managers and premises leads in eligible East Sussex SMEs.

What will we cover?

Your energy bills and energy use

Get more comfortable with what your bills, meters and smart-meter data can tell you and how better monitoring can help you spot problems and opportunities.

Where you might be wasting energy

Explore practical low- and no-cost opportunities around heating, lighting, controls, equipment and everyday behaviour.

How to prioritise what is actually worth doing

Rather than assuming the answer is a major retrofit or expensive technology, learn a practical way to compare options according to cost, potential savings, business benefit and your circumstances.

How to think about energy investment

Understand the factors that can make an energy-efficiency investment worthwhile, without unrealistic promises about exact savings or payback periods.

Energy prices, funding and wider support

We will also touch on tariffs and energy-price volatility, relevant grants and funding, energy brokers, and where to find trusted support.

What will I leave with?

The aim is not to give every business the same answer.

You will leave with a clearer way to think about your energy use, one priority action to take next and a better understanding of where further investigation could be worthwhile.
