On Saturday 7 November 2026, Papple Steading and Richard Demarco join leading cultural institutions, including Tate Modern and the Sainsbury Centre, in planting a circle of oak trees in memory of German artist Joseph Beuys. Papple Steading is a proud cultural partner for Ackroyd & Harvey’s artwork Beuys’ Acorns, planting seven oak trees in our wildflower meadow to grow over the heads of future generations. Six of the trees are descended from Joseph Beuys’ monumental artwork 7000 Oaks, with the seventh grown from the historic oak tree at Charles Darwin’s childhood home. The accompanying exhibition in the Richard Demarco Gallery, curated by Siobhan McLaughlin, honours the shared legacy of both artists and those who continue to champion their environmental and social ideas. Spanning 56 years of creative dialogue and connection between Richard Demarco and Joseph Beuys, the exhibition serves not only as an archive of significant collaborative moments, but as an urgent artistic action for the future. Opening Day Schedule: Saturday 7 November Everyone is warmly invited to celebrate the launch of the exhibition and witness the completion of the living installation: 1:00 pm: Exhibition Opens: The exhibition opens to the public in the Richard Demarco Gallery with Richard Demarco in attendance. 3:00 pm: Historic Oak Planting: Visitors will walk together to Papple’s wildflower meadow (a 10-minute walk, rain or shine) as Richard Demarco plants the final seventh oak to complete the circle. 6:00 pm: Dinner at Eve’s Court: Eve’s Court serves dinner from 6:00 pm, joined by Richard Demarco. Booking is essential for dinner service.
