The Sound of My Own Voice is a spoken word and song performance by Morna Burdon at Summerhall in Edinburgh on 19 November 2026. The show features poems and observations on topics including immigration, climate change and social justice. It is presented as a follow-up to the Push The Boat Out poetry festival. Tickets are available for £11.25.
Following hot on the heels of Edinburgh’s Push The Boat Out festival of international poetry, Morna Burdon keeps the conversation going with her dynamic spoken word show The Sound of My Own Voice, built to challenge the status quo and inspired by the voices and stories of those so often dismissed, dehumanised or unheard. Through a tapestry of defiant poems, incisive observations, and powerful songs of radical protest encompassing immigration, climate change, revolution, this performance ranges from the hope that lies in human creativity and connection in the face of artificial intelligence to an amusing, scorching response to an unsuspecting theatre critic. From a moving portrait of solidarity for Gaza thriving inside a Scottish housing scheme, to a deeply intimate look at the conflict in Ukraine from a father’s point of view, the show maps the raw human cost of our times. Using a compelling mix of personal histories, radical politics, rage and humour, this is both a collective call to action and a celebration of life and the power of human kindness. Morna is an Edinburgh-based international performer, writer and director who has toured extensively, playing to audiences from Adelaide to Prague, from Denmark to the Edinburgh Fringe. 14+ recommended Contains occasional strong language.
