About This Event

Winter Hillwalking for Women at Roam West in Fort William includes a guided weekend with a two night stay on 22 January 2027. Various performers will guide participants who have already completed a winter skills course. Tickets cost £285.00.

Winter Hillwalking for Women is a weekend of guided hillwalking for those who have already been on a winter skills course (any provider)

The mountains of Scotland are a breath-taking sight when covered with snow but they can also be intimidating. If you've been on a winter skills course before (from Girls on Hills or another provider) and have experience of using ice axe and crampons, then this is the weekend for you!

Brush-up your prior knowledge and put new skills into practice in a safe and supportive setting. The course will involve two days of guided winter hillwalking (ratio 1:6) with one of our femlae, local Winter Mountain Leaders. We will climb some iconic mountains in the spectacular Glencoe/Lochaber area, and enjoy two days journeying in the winter mountains.

Spend the evenings relaxing together by the fire, sharing a well-earned drink and tales of the day!

Our popular Winter Hillwalking courses include:

> Two full days of guiding and instruction with female Winter Leaders/Winter MCI-qualified instructors

> Two-night stay (Fri & Sat) at comfortable and conveniently located Roam West (half-way between Glencoe and Fort William to make use of the best conditions/venues each day). Shared rooms in comfortable bunkhouse/lodge (2-3 pers per room)

> Tea and cake in the lodge kitchen after returning from the hill.

> Bar restaurant and drying room on-site.

*A non-accommodation weekend option is available upon request by email (£225.00 pp)

WHAT TO EXPECT

The exact routes/summits will depend on prevailing conditions. Uplift is not included, so a good level of hill fitness will be required to get the most out of the day (but don't worry, we'll take a sociable pace suitable for varying levels of confidence/experience)!

Upon booking you will receive a confirmation email which includes a full detailed kit list for the course.

We will meet at Roam West in Inchree, nr Glencoe on Saturday morning. Roam West will be the location of our meet-n-greet and debrief, with tea and cake once off the hill!

Please note this event is only suitable for people who have previous experience of using mountaineering boots, crampons and ice axe and who have previously attended a Winter Skills Course. If you don't have this experience please look to our Winter Skills courses instead.

Our goal is to empower women with the skills and confidence necessary to take their next step and experience the unparalleled beauty of the Scottish Highlands in winter.

WEATHER AND SNOW CONDITIONS

Scottish winter is notoriously fickle and unfortunately we cannot guarantee good snow and wintery conditions at any point during the winter season. When you book with Girls on Hills, you can feel assured that we will give you the best possible course under the given conditions - but we cannot be held responsible for the variable snow cover! As local guides, we do however know all the best places to learn and practice winter skills in all weathers/conditions, whether that's a howling gale or balmy sunshine with little snow.

Every year we go the extra mile to give our winter course attendees the best possible learning experience in the face of unpredictable and changing seasons, which are increasingly being impacted by climate change. We'll head out and have a great time in the winter mountains, whatever that looks like on the day.

Girls on Hills reserve the right to modify the course itinerary to keep clients safe and to make the best of the winter conditions are available. Our winter courses will only be cancelled if mountain weather/conditions are deemed unsafe to continue.

Please note that the Girls on Hills Terms and Conditions are different from those of Eventbrite and our Cancellation Policy can be viewed via our website at www.girlsonhills.com/terms-and-conditions

VENUE AND ACCOMMODATION

Our accommodation partner, Roam West is providing our course attendees with a discounted accommodation package on the Friday and Saturday nights. This includes a two-night stay in comfortable and well-appointed self-catering accommodation, with facilities on site. Also included in the cost of your ticket is a two-course meal in the cosy Roam West bar/restaurant. You can also expect some brilliant evening speakers in the bar to fascinate and enthuse you! Join us, not only for fabulous mountains, but also for a sociable evening with likeminded women - aka future hill-walking buddies!

We pride ourselves on being 'approachable and relatable', so please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any concerns.

We look forward to breaking-trail with you this winter!
