About This Event

On 26 September 2026 at The Mick Lally Theatre in Galway, Ciarán MacChoncarraige will deliver a talk exploring the intersection between street photography, architecture and community. This session focuses on the work of the local photographer within the built environment. The event is open to the public at no cost.

A talk about the intersection between street photography, architecture and community from Galway street photographer Ciarán MacChoncarraige.

Street photography and architecture have an intrinsic relationship with one another; the former being the practice of documenting how people interact with the latter. Observing the built environment through a lens is an effective way to build a closer connection to the urban landscape - to make it feel more like it belongs to you, and that you belong to it.

In this talk, Galway street photographer Ciarán MacChoncarraige explores the relationship between the camera and architecture, and how the simple practice of walking the streets and taking photographs can make you feel closer to your community. This will be followed by a 1hr photo walk in Galway City, with any device that can capture an image encouraged - mobile phones included.
