Known for her writing on performance, theatre, and dance—Leda draws on concepts from Afro-Brazilian experience, worldmaking and syncretic religious frameworks to explore performance in Black life. I Am Still Alive Mahmoud Alshaer 7.30 - 7.50pm Poetry Reading | T1 Ticketed via Sat Evening Pass Mahmoud is a central figure in cultural life in Gaza. He’ll read from his recent poetry collections I Am Still Alive and A Year on the Abyss of Genocide: two collections of quotidian updates and reflections; vital affirmation of presence and testimony of everyday life in Gaza in a time of genocide. Access: Live Captioning & BSL Content Notes : Mahmoud's poetry portrays him and his families experience of living through a genocide under structural state violence. It contains descriptions of violence and suffering. Toward a Sumudic Cinema Michel Khleifi, Ayreen Anastas & Rene Gabri 8.10 - 10pm Screening & Conversation | T1 Ticketed via Sat Evening Pass Michel Khleifi is considered the founder of contemporary Palestinian cinema. In conversation with Ayreen Anastas, he’ll screen his landmark documentary of anti-colonial time and persistence, Ma'loul Celebrates its Destruction (1984), clips from some other films, and discuss his groundbreaking work.
