Ashlaa’ to Lamlameh: Fragments Made Whole Nadera Shalhoub-Kevorkian and David Lloyd 7 - 8.20pm Discussion | Tramway 1 Ticketed via Thurs Evening Pass A conversation between preeminent Palestinian feminist, Nadera Shalhoub-Kevorkian and poet and scholar David Lloyd. Nadera has coined two incredibly profound concepts to understand Palestinian life today. Ashlaa'—the violent fracturing of Palestinian bodies, and lamlameh—the defiant collecting of a loved one’s parts. Access: Live Captioning & BSL Content Notes This conversation will cover subjects including: state crimes, gender-based violence, surveillance, and the impacts of military occupation on Palestinian women and children, including death and dismemberment. J'ai Huit Ans (1961) Yann Le Masson 8.20 - 8.30pm Film Screening | T1 Ticketed via Thurs Evening Pass A landmark of militant cinema, J'ai Huit Ans emerged from work undertaken by the great anti-colonial psychiatrist and philosopher Franz Fanon with Algerian child refugees, documenting their experiences of French violence during the Algerian War of Independence. Filmed portraits of these children are intercut with their drawings, originally collected by Fanon, as they narrate the stories behind the images. Access: English Subtitling, Content Notes: Descriptions and drawn representations of colonial violence against children and their parents, from the children's own perspective. Countertechnologies of life making in Palestine, for Palestine Nadera Shalhoub-Kervorkian & Lara Sheehi 8.50 - 10pm Discussion | Tramway 1 Ticketed via Thurs Evening Pass Our second event focused on the work of the preeminent Palestinian Feminist scholar Nadera Shalhoub-Kervorkian. Here, she sits down with psychoanalyst and author Lara Sheehi to discuss some of Nadera’s other vital concepts including the ideas of ‘overkilling’ and ‘unchilding’, which are fundamental to understanding Palestinian experience today.
